#071 Apai Gumok And A Witch

Once there was a man named Apai Gumok, which meant “'fat man”. Apai Gumok and his wife, who was also fat, lived in a small village near a river. Unfortunately, Apai Gumok's wife was a scold, but she had her reasons to be like that. Her husband was not a very good hunter. He often came home after hunting all day with only a small bird. And he was not a good fisherman either because he usually caught only a few small fishes. All the villagers laughed at Apai Gumok, and his wife always shouted at him because he never brought home enough food to eat.

One day, when he was out hunting in the jungle, Apai Gumok met a witch. He tried to escape, he ran at every direction, but wherever he turned, he saw the witch again. What a frightening witch. She had long dirty hair, long dirty fingernails, and broken teeth.

When Apai Gumok was tired of running, he spoke to the witch. “Why are you following me?” he asked.

The witch laughed, “I want to help you, Apai Gumok. I want to make you a rich and powerful man. I want you to have the respect of the villagers so they won't laugh at you anymore.”

Apai Gumok could barely believe his ears. “But surely you won't help me just out of the kindness of your heart,” he said. “What do you want?”

Again the witch laughed. It was an evil laugh. “Simple,” she said. “When you are rich, powerful and respected, I want you to marry me.”

“But I'm already married,” said Apai Gumok.

“No problem,” said the witch, “I'll change your wife into a little pink pig with black spots on its head. Then you can become a famous hunter and marry me.”

Apai Gumok wanted to be rich and respected. He also wanted to be a famous hunter. And his wife wasn't very kind to him. Still, the witch frightened him, and he did not want to marry such a dirty woman. He ran back to the village.

“Where are you, Wife?” he cried when he reached the house.

“Oink.”

“Wife?” he called again.

“Oink.”

In the house there was a little pink pig with black spots on its head! From that day onwards, nobody saw Apai Gumok's wife. He said she had gone to another village to visit her aunt. They all noticed his new friend because the little pig followed him everywhere.

Soon strange things began to happen to Apai Gumok. He became a fine hunter, and a very good fisherman. Before long, he was famous as the best hunter in the village. Then, one day he found gold beneath his house, and Apai Gumok became a rich man.

One month later, Apai Gumok came across the witch in the jungle.

“We must be married soon,” she said.

But Apai Gumok tried to make some excuses.

Finally the witch insisted. “I've been waiting a long time, Apai Gumok.”

“You have what you want, and now you must give me what I want. I want a husband.”

Apai Gumok looked at the ugly old witch, and then he looked down at the pig.

“One wife is enough,” he said. “I don't want another wife.”

At that time the pig squealed and the witch shouted. They were both very angry. Apai Gumok did not know what to do. All he could think of was a nice cool swim in the river.

“Look,” he said, “why don't we go swimming in the river? We can talk about the wedding later.”

This idea seemed to please the witch and the pig, so off they all went. When they had swum into the deepest part of the river, Apai Gumok took hold of the witch's ears and held her head under the water. In a few minutes she was drowned and died. He swam back to shore thinking that his troubles were over.

“Husband, here you are at last,” said a familiar voice.

Apai Gumok's wife was standing in the shallow water. The little pink pig was nowhere to be seen. Apai Gumok was relieved. He looked at his fat wife and thought how pretty and clean she was. Together they walked back to the village where they then lived happily ever after.

#070 The Tranquilizer 2 : The Last Blood (Part 4)

Murdoc Junior didn’t shoot Diego.

“I think I won’t enjoy killing you with a gun,” said Murdoc Junior.

He then threw away his gun and cracked his knuckles. Diego stood up ready to fight him. The fight was intense. Diego knew that he could never beat Murdoc Junior as he was so muscular and huge. He kept trying to avoid getting hit by Murdoc Junior. Once he had a chance, he jumped far to reach his gun. He got it!

Quickly, he ran to the edge of the building and jumped over to the next building. Murdoc Junior was furious and he ran so fast to chase Diego. Once Diego landed at the next building, he took out a special tranquilizing needle and loaded it inside the gun.

“I have prepared this only for you.”

Just when Murdoc Junior left the ground, Diego shot him and he was tranquilized by the special tranquilizing needle. Murdoc Junior could not reach the next building and he fell from the roof. A loud sound came out as he hit the ground.

Pedro was so shocked to witness that. He had no other choice but to shoot Diego dead. He pulled the trigger and shot at Diego. It hit Diego’s shoulder! He ran away fast even though he was badly wounded by the shot. He avoided open area so that Pedro would not be able to shoot him easily.

The blood kept dripping as Diego was running. Finally he was able to reach his car and drove away fast.

Pedro could not shoot him anymore. So he called Murdoc King to report that his son had been killed.

“Boss, I am sorry I couldn’t protect your son. But your son was killed because of his arrogance. He had the chance to kill Diego with his gun but he threw it away and chose to fight him with his hands,” reported Pedro.

“That idiot!” said Murdoc King in furious tone. “I will kill him myself! I swear!”

#069 The Giant Snake Of Yamata

Long, long ago there was a powerful spirit, called Prince Susano. Once when he was travelling across the mountains, he heard some people crying. The crying came from a house where an old couple lived. He asked them what made them cry.

“A giant snake with eight heads lives near us. Every year the snake comes here and takes one of our daughters away. It has already taken seven of our daughters and we have only one left. Tonight the giant snake will come again and take her too,” sobbed the old man.

“Don’t worry anymore,” said the prince. “I’ll kill the giant snake. I have a good plan. Please ask all the villagers to come here.”

The prince told the villagers to build a very strong fence with eight doors. In the front of each door, they put a huge jar and filled it with strong wine. Everyone worked hard and soon the smell of wine filled the air.

The prince Susano then spoke to the young girl, “Nothing will happen to you. He quickly changed her into a small comb and put the comb into his hair. When everything was ready, he hid the old couple and the villagers in a safe place. Then he stood alone with his sword, waiting for the snake.

At midnight, he heard a strange sound and saw a giant snake with eight heads. Then the snake smelled the wine. It stretched its eight heads through the eight gates and drank from the eight jars. Because the wine was so strong, the snake soon became dizzy.

The prince was watching from behind a tree. “Now is the right moment,” he thought. He jumped out and cut off the snake’s eight heads one by one, until the snake was dead. The prince also cut off the snake’s tail so that it could not come alive again.

When he was sure that snake was dead, the prince took the comb from his hair and breathed on it. At once the old couple’s daughter came alive again and stood before him. She knelt down and thanked the prince. The old couple and all villagers also thanked the prince for killing the horrible snake.

“Now we can all live in peace again. We would be very happy if you stayed and lived with us,” said the old man.

The prince then decided to stay and live in the mountains. He asked the daughter to be his bride and live with him in a beautiful palace at Izume. They lived happily together there for a long time.

#068 A Kind Woodcutter And A Tiger

One day, a woodcutter called Sok went into the forest to cut wood. On his way he found a tiger lying on the path. He looked more closely at the tiger. He saw that it way lying on top of a snake’s hole. “A snake has bitten it,” thought Sok.

He was a kind man and he felt sorry for the tiger. He took some medicine from his bag and rubbed it on the tiger’s fur. Straight away, the tiger opened his eyes. He saw that his beautiful fur was covered with medicine. He was very angry.

“Look what you have done to my fur!” he roared.

“I thought a snake had bitten you,” said Sok. “I didn’t want you to die.”

“Me? Die?” said the tiger. “Look, nothing bit me. I was asleep, that’s all. But you’re going to die very soon. I shall eat you for my lunch.”

Sok was very frightened. He knelt down on the ground and said, “Please don’t kill me. Please wait until I can find someone in this forest. Then I’ll ask him who is right, if you’re right you can eat me. If you’re wrong, then let me go.”

The tiger agreed and Sok looked around to find any living creatures. Then he saw a horse and a cow.

He told them the whole story, and then he asked, “Can you please help me. Who is right-the tiger or me?”

The horse and the cow knew that Sok was right. But they did not say anything to Sok.

“If we say Sok is right,” they said to each other, “the tiger will be very angry. He’ll eat us instead of Sok.” So they decided to walk away without deciding anything.

Now Sok was even more worried, he looked around again. Soon he met a hare. He told the hare his story.

“Please help me,” he asked.

“Yes. I’ll help you,” the hare replied. “Go back and start talking to the tiger; I will be there as you two were talking.”

Sok went back to the tiger and started talking. Soon the hare come along.

“What are you two talking about?” the hare asked.

The tiger said, “I was just asleep but this man covered my beautiful coat with medicine!”

Then Sok said, “I thought a snake had bitten him. I didn’t want him to die.”

“Hmmmmmm,” said the hare. “I want to find out what really happened. Go back to the place where you were sleeping, tiger. I would like to know from the beginning.”

The tiger went back to the snake’s hole and laid on top of it. The snake came out of its hole and bit him.
“This time, don’t rub any medicine on his fur,” said the hare. So the tiger died and Sok were saved.

#067 The Tranquilizer 2 : The Last Blood (Part 3)

Four of Murdoc Junior’s bodyguards made way for their boss as he walked towards Diego Mann’s shop. From faraway, Pedro was hiding with his sniper. Murdoc Junior and his underlings were making so much noise that Diego Mann heard them.

“I know this day will come,” he said to himself.

Diego bowed down and took a bag under the watch display. He then heard someone’s shouting.

“That’s the man that will die today,” shouted Murdoc Junior pointing at Diego.

Diego ran quickly to his house. Murdoc Junior along with his bodyguards were chasing him like mad. They ran into a market and made a ruckus there. Many stalls were destroyed. Finally Diego made it to his house. The bodyguards rammed down the front door. Diego were hiding and waiting behind a table. He waited for some time to make sure everyone was inside the room. He peeked and he saw the room was packed with his enemies.

He then threw a ball hard to the ceiling. The ball was just like an ordinary iron ball, but when it hit the ceiling, it shot hundreds of tranquilizing needles that shot every direction. Some were able to avoid being hit by the needles by hiding behind other people. Only Murdoc Junior that pulled his bodyguard’s body to become a shield him from being hit by the needles.

There were only four people who didn’t get hit by the needles including Murdoc Junior. The bodyguards started shooting at the table where Diego was hiding at. Diego swiftly jumped behind a wall and ran to the roof.

For Illustration Purpose

“After him!” commanded Murdoc Junior.

On the rooftop, Murdoc King and his three bodyguards saw Diego jumping to the next building. Then they decided to follow him by jumping over to the next building. The three bodyguards jumped first and Murdoc Junior jumped last. When they were running, suddenly Diego turned back and took out his gun. He shot the three bodyguards with tranquilizing needles and they were tranquilized. The gun can only load three tranquilizing needles. Before he could reload and shoot Murdoc Junior, Murdoc Junior had already jumped and he hit Diego hard!

The gun was thrown to the ground. Murdoc Junior then took out his gun and pointed it at Diego. Diego were not scared at all.

“That’s great, Murdoc Junior is finally able to get his revenge,” thought Pedro who had been watching all along.
